I'd actually like to hear the views of cons on this since they're generally pro-oil?

Getting away from the oil use by necessity must be a very gradual thing. Many, if not most, Americans can not afford the current very high prices of electric cars. Technology must be vastly improved to make the change viable, for electricity is rising all the time. Meanwhile, we have oil reserves that will last for hundreds of years. Just because obama has a feather up his nose is no reason for us to sneeze.
